On 8th September 2022, Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika's 96th birth anniversary was observed by organising a 'Bhupendra Sangeet' and group dance competition at the premises of RCC 2 Boys' Hall in Gauhati University.
The event was organised by RCC- 2 Boys' Hall in collaboration with RCC- 2 Girls' Hall. Dr. Pranjal Saikia, the warden of RCC-2 Boys' Hall paid tribute to Dr. Bhupen Hazarika by lighting clay lamps before the inaugural of the event, after that members of the dice along with the audiences sang the theme song of Gauhati University- "Jilikabo Louitor A Par" and the Director of Students' Welfare, Dr. Ranjan Kumar Kakati inaugurated the event and declared its commencement.
The respective judges for both the singing and dancing competition were, Mrinal Kanti Medhi, Dr. Pranjal Saikia, Jayjeet Kashyap and Devitrishna Das. There were many participants from various departments and hostels of the University and from among them in the singing competition Semson Ingti from the dept. of Communication & Journalism, Gauhati University won the first prize while Puja Kalita and Jublee Bora got the second and third prize.
Later in the group dance competition department of Communication & Journalism won the first prize and members of the team are Ajay Sarkar, Sneha Purkayastha and Liza Thakuria while the RCC 7 Girls' Hall and RCC 6 Girls' Hall won the second and third prize and the encouragement award was received by Saratar Sewali group.
Overall the event turned out to be a huge success for the organizers- RCC- 2 Boys' Hall and RCC-2 Girls' Hall. Most of the students of the University were present in the program and the state anthem of Assam- 'O Mor Apunar Dekh' was sung as the valedictory song of the event by all people those who were present in the event.
