On Saturday, the stores, marketplaces, and traffic on the roadways in Imphal Valley resumed a cautious routine. All key sites and routes were marked by a strong security presence that has been boosted by the airlifting of more army personnel, members of the rapid action force, and central police units.
Even though there were numerous police officers on the streets of Imphal town and other locations, the majority of stores and markets opened in the morning with people buying produce and other necessities.
In the meantime, police reported that two separate engagements on Friday night in Churachandpur district resulted in the deaths of five hill-based terrorists and the injuries of two India Reserve Battalion jawans.
The police reported that four militants were killed after an engagement between security personnel and the latter in Saiton in the Churachandpur district.
Security forces at Torbung were forced to retaliate after militants opened fire on them. Two IRB jawans were hurt and one militant was killed during the exchange of gunfire, according to the police.
A spokeswoman for the Defence Department reported that 13,000 people in all were saved and sent to secure locations, some of which were army camps as the army established "firm control" over the districts of Churachandpur, Moreh, Kakching, and Kangpokpi.
However, there was a lack of information regarding the instances.
According to numerous sources, numerous scores of people were killed and almost a hundred were injured during the conflict between the villages. The police would not, however, confirm this.
Districts like Churachandpur, Bishenpur, Imphal East and West provided the bodies.
At RIMS and the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, numerous patients with bullet wounds are also receiving care.
"Security Forces' quick action enabled the rescue of civilians from all communities trapped in conflict zones' minority enclaves. Because of this, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Moreh, and Kakching are now completely under control, and no significant acts of violence have been reported since last night, according to the PRO.
The state has been rocked by confrontations between the Kuki tribal group, who reside in the hill areas, and the Meitei tribe, which is primarily in Imphal Valley, since Wednesday. Nearly 10,000 personnel from the Army and the Assam Rifles have been deployed in the area.
The official from the defence department stated that a total of 13,000 people had been saved and were currently residing in a number of ad hoc boarding facilities within company operating bases and military garrisons that had been built especially for the purpose.
On Friday, Chief Minister N Biren Singh and other top officials met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the state of affairs in Manipur as the Centre sent more security personnel and anti-riot vehicles to the state to keep order.
On Friday, according to sources, almost 1,000 more members of the central paramilitary with anti-riot vehicles arrived in Manipur.
Due to the current circumstances in the state, trains to Manipur have been cancelled with immediate effect on Friday, according to a Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) spokeswoman.
At the 'Tribal Solidarity March' held by the All Tribal Student Union Manipur (ATSUM) on Wednesday to denounce the Meiteis' demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, violence first broke out in the Torbung neighbourhood of Churachandpur district.
Some tribal members, including Kukis, coordinated the march after the Manipur High Court ordered the state administration to give a recommendation to the Centre over the Metei community's claim for ST status last month.
An armed mob allegedly attacked members of the Meitei community during the march in Torbung, which sparked reprisals in the valley regions and increased the level of violence across the state, according to the police.
The majority of Meiteis, who make up around 53% of the population, reside in the Imphal Valley. Another 40% of the population is made up of tribes, including the Kukis, who primarily reside in the hill districts that encircle the Valley.
